Caught Bob's report about Chef Boyardee on @wxpnfm.bsky.social this morning and had to share this: I was in Milton with some friends last weekend and we visited the Chef Boyardee statue!

21. At various workplaces, Phil received ornaments as gifts. This was our first one after we moved to Pennsylvania.

20. This one blends in with the tree. It's Jamestown glass from our vacation in and around Williamsburg, VA. The glass blower was fascinating. Still one of my favorite memories.

19. We grew up a Little Debbie family, but since moving to PA we have enjoyed some TastyKakes. A friend who works for the company gave us this ornament.

18. Last year, we watched all episodes of The Office with our kids. We got a Michael Scott ornament as a gift. It speaks!

17. The newest addition to our tree. We forgot to buy an ornament on vacation this year, and we realized we didn't have our current city represented.

16. Still one of my favorite vacations. In 2019, we spent time in the Finger Lakes, New York.

15. Church and faith became complicated for me starting in 2015. We left a church we'd been regularly attending for 7 years in 2020. I wasn't sure we'd find another spiritual community that suited us. I was wrong. Been attending Life Church in Lancaster, PA since 2021.

14. When I studied in England for a semester in college, I befriended a woman 35 years older than me, and we have been pen pals for more than 25 years. She sent me this ornament for Christmas one year.

13. I honestly can't remember where we got this one, but it's wooden and gives off Christmas vibes. If I had an aesthetic, it would be something like this.

12. Last year, during our vacation to AZ, Phil found a place for lunch that was essentially an artists' commune. I thought we were in danger of joining a cult, but it was a lovely stop. This metal cactus is our reminder to find beauty off the beaten path.

11. The church that Phil and I called home in childhood and early adulthood had a tree covered in these handmade ornaments. Having one on our tree is like carrying a piece of that experience with us, even though our beliefs have shifted.

10. I'm obsessed with space. I grew up during the Space Shuttle era. We did a Florida vacay years ago and squeezed in Kennedy Space Center. I hadn't been since I was a kid and got to take my kids. Amazing.

9. Almost a decade ago, a writer I follow online encouraged Christians to remember the people of Syria, especially in Aleppo, during the Advent season. This ornament remains on my tree, and given the news today, is still a timely reminder that peace is not a given at Xmas.

8. At my first "real" job working for a newspaper in my hometown, we had an ornament gift exchange for Christmas. This one always reminds me of my first editor--she challenged me to grow in so many ways. And it's pink! (My favorite color.)

7. I went through a VeggieTales phase after college and then again when my kids were little. A skiing Bob the Tomato just makes me smile.
December 7, 2024 at 2:05 PM
6. My love for books is no secret. Many years ago, I was part of a launch team for an author, and one of the members made these beauties using the pages of books. They're still some of my favorite ornaments.

5. Look, kids, Big Ben! In my junior year of college, I studied in England for a semester, a time period that changed me in ways I'm still discovering 26 years later. befriended an older lady whom I have continued to be pen pals with. One year, she sent me a set of London ornaments. This is one.

4. Ten years ago, our kids were 6 and 4, and we took our first real family vacation with friends to Cape May. Ever since, we've bought an ornament when we take a trip as a way to remember our travels. This one was the first in that series. We added our names to personalized it.

3. After college, when I had my first Christmas tree in my first apartment, my aunt and uncle gifted me an assortment of ornaments from their tree as a sort of starter pack for my own collection. I've added to it greatly over the years, but I still have the ones they gave me, including this one.

2. My son turns 15 today. He's a huge basketball fan and is especially fond of Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks. Even though his dad and I grew up loving the Chicago Bulls, we're fans of Giannis's story. Our son got this ornament as a gift, and he placed it on the tree this year.
