It's the birthday of Lou Reed (1942 - 2013). As much as any writer, there are musicians and filmmakers who have been big inspirations in my life, and Lou is one of them. First, as the leader of The Velvet Underground and then as a solo artist. His albums were a big part of the soundtrack of my life.

Farewell to the terrific Michelle Trachtenberg, who was so great as Dawn on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." I probably should check out ‘Gossip Girl’ where she got much acclaim as the villain, Georgina Sparks. She was only 39! www.nytimes.com/2025/02/26/a...

Farewell to the great MARIANNE FAITHFULL. She first became famous for being Mick Jagger's girlfriend, then went on to become a singer, actress (and later, cabaret artist) on her own. A multi-talented, amazing woman.

A fresh-faced singer and Mick Jagger’s muse in the 1960s, she went on to experience more than her share of hard times before emerging triumphant.

Happy Birthday to the great Alan Moore! Arguably the best writer to ever write for the comics medium, who gave us such classics as WATCHMEN, FROM HELL, V FOR VENDETTA, and PROMETHEA. And, for horror fans, his run on SWAMP THING is legendary! He changed the landscape and elevated the medium forever.

Today is the birthday of one of my biggest inspirations as a writer - the great J.G. Ballard. He started out writing sf novels about cataclysmic nature events like THE DROWNED WORLD, then wrote edgier, experimental novels like CRASH and HIGH-RISE, before going mainstream with EMPIRE OF THE SUN.

My name is L.L. Soares and I am a writer - mostly of horror and dark fiction. I got Bluesky months ago, but haven't used it until now. Nice to see the mass exodus from Twitter. Maybe this place will be hopping now!! Hope to be on this more often now - since I hardly ever went on that "other" site.
