Student run account for the Lloyd-Jones/Garcia-Dominguez Group. Understanding reaction mechanisms 🧪 through reaction monitoring (mainly NMR 🧲) and physical-organic techniques.
This summer we welcomed 3 fantastic undergraduate students into the lab 🧪
We wish them the very best of luck going into their 4th year and thank them for all their hard work and contributions - especially the baked goods!

The GLJ-AGD group may be a hard-working chemistry research group… but we’re not just that. 🎨
We swapped pipettes for paintbrushes at Doodles - even chemists need a creative outlet! 🧪

Well done to Seren Hewer (PhD) for reaching the University Final of #3MT with her talk "I Can Si Clearly Now", diving into the world of silicon chemistry and reaction monitoring (which is anything but elemental) - after winning the People's Choice award at both the School and College heats. 🧪🎉

Blink and you'll miss it - but the judges didn't!
@annabelflook.bsky.social won Best Synthesis Talk at the Joseph Black Conference for her brilliant work on capturing rapid reactions.

A huge shoutout to Chen Li for presenting some exquisite and exciting boron chemistry — fantastic work all around!

Yesterday Dr Andres Garcia-Dominguez delivered a standout talk at the St Andrews Centre of Magnetic Resonance.

Combining clever pulse sequences with sharp mechanistic thinking, he showed how NMR can support and challenge computation!

🎉Si-mply fantastic! 🎉
Huge congratulations to Dr Hannah Minshull who won 2nd place at the Empowering Women in Organic Chemistry Europe Conference this week.
Silicon chemistry has never looked so slick!

In March, PhD students Callum Cushnie and Roisin O'Dea proved it's not just about fast chemical reactions - they're fast on their feet too! They both successfully completed the Inverness Half Marathon with speed and precision worthy of any lab experiment. #InvernessHalfMarathon

Massive congratulations to PhD student Callum Cushnie for absolutely smashing the activation barrier at the Edinburgh Marathon yesterday - flying across the finish line at 2:59:56! Now that's what we call a fast reaction rate! #EdinburghMarathon #FirstMarathon

GLJ/AGD research group took a break from the lab yesterday for a swim and BBQ — great science, better sausages, and even better company! 🌊🔥🥩
