When taught Animal Farm, kids would look at the spark notes and insist it was merely a parable of the failed ideals of the Russian revolution. They would name historical counterparts. Safe interpretation. I told them no, it's a warning to the west about unchecked power. Now, we are living it.

I had a really deep thought at work some 5 or 10 years ago. I remember having it. I do not remember what it was, but I'm still impressed at its depth. I should have written it down.

I used to think citizens during a coup must have been under great duress while thunder clapped and life froze in grayscale images for all eternity. I see now, though, a coup can be just another day. Work. Supper. Levers of power seized by monsters. Watch TV. Brush. Go to bed. Just another day.

I really hope when I'm in a restaurant the kitchen staff is not back there acting like those cooking shows where the guy screams at everyone while they panic. I can wait an extra 10 minutes. Just calm down.
