Wow that’s some detailed research! A little bit of all resonates, but now that I think of it I think it’s mostly the intonation, especially in colloquial French. I actually don’t mind the French spoken in movies or news, but the one spoken on the street. Maybe it’s the closed sounds you mentioned 🤔

Thanks for sharing the explanation! For me it’s definitely exposure. The more I hear a language the more I like it, I think. And funny enough, French is probably the ugliest to my ears, here even exposure doesn’t help ;). I always wondered why it’s considered so pretty…
