There's always more disappointing things to learn about Flock, the surveillance tech company whose license plate-reader cameras are currently spying on Lakewood. And Ring cameras may be popular but they're not any safer for our privacy. We say it's time to #gettheflockoutoflakewood

Last night's Tree Lighting had so much cool stuff! Games, food, music, a visit from Santa, even falling 'snow.'

We came to give out candy canes and whistle packs about ICE. So many people were so happy to see and hear from us! We wish the city had been the ones to step up to educate residents.

What you don't realize unless you know Lakewood is that this Home Depot is directly across from City Hall. Just to the north is the Lakewood Sheriff Department. 5/

Across the street is Lakewood City Hall. North of City Hall is the Lakewood Sheriff Department, circled in yellow. The sheriffs are 1000 feet away from Home Depot, and the parking lot is even closer to them than that.

I think this is an important story to tell. Today my friend's husband was arrested due to racial profiling by ICE at Lakewood Home Depot. It turns out he had proof of being a U.S. citizen on his person but no one asked or listened to him. When he got to downtown LA for processing they found the documents. After waiting in horrible conditions all day, they told him he is now "under investigation" but would not say for what. He got one phone call. His wife has been instructed to bring her birth certificate, wedding certificate and her driver's license to the detention center in DTLA tomorrow. There is no reason she needs to do that as she is a U.S. citizen also, who was born here as well. (Just fyi -Her husband's police record is spotless - not even unpaid parking tickets.)

This morning our members visited the offices of Senators Padilla and Schiff to tell them we need them to call on Sen. Schumer to step down as Senate Minority Leader.

Lakewood Indivisible is out here fighting for democracy, and we need leaders who will fight just as hard as their constituents.

Many families are struggling due to the halt on SNAP benefits, uncertainty on when/if those funds will be partially or fully reinstated, and recent layoffs and furloughs in both the private and public sectors. We are so grateful to everyone who came to last night's candlelight vigil. 84 lights were placed by attendees. We will not let our community be taken piece by piece. We love and we miss our neighbors.

We're coming together to support our neighbors and community members affected by ICE actions, the recent government shutdown, and anyone in need. Items needed: snacks, fresh fruit, fruit cups, tuna, rice, beans, tortillas, bread, peanut butter, instant coffee, canned chili, cereal, water and assorted beverages, cleaning and hygiene supplies, shavers and shaving cream for men, diapers (all sizes), wipes, formula, and clean, gently used men's and children's clothing and shoes (all sizes). Our government is not protecting our community as it should. Families and individuals are facing racial profiling and taelrgeted detentions, leaving many in crisis.
