having now watched the finale, I think I know exactly what task this is referring to. That last task at Rainbows End was SO sneaky, it had me laughing as soon as the 'twist' was revealed.

Still can't believe he lost the ball in episode 1, gives you an idea of how frantic his mind must have been, to put a ball down and walk away from it on clearly sloping ground. A slightly embarrassing way to come last in a task, by losing the thing you actually need to complete the task.
