Musician, academic, union leader. So grateful to be able to weave music into many aspects of my life: scores cataloging & musicology @ Univ of PA; gigging violist; serious classical recording hobbyist; obsessive art music listener; married to a pianist.

All of this! All of my parents’ close friends we called Aunt or Uncle, and it was the most natural and normal thing to do. Even when I became an adult, I continued to call them Aunt and Uncle. I would not have it any other way.

Wonderful article. Thank you for posting the link. Somehow I managed to miss it yesterday in the NYT.

The only acceptable response to this preposterous proposal can only be, in the immortal words of Brigadier General Anthony McAuliffe at the Battle of the Bulge, "Nuts!"

Point me to starter packs, or individuals, who post about successful resistance, large and small. I will gladly repost. Let's build a community and show that democracy works, that we can make a difference, that we are not alone. Many thanks. /End

The successes, the examples of good trouble, are being drowned out by a chorus of doom-and-gloom posters. It is exhausting. I'm sure I'm not alone. So here's the deal: I'm asking for help. 5/X

It was Richardson's post, where I learned that funding has been restored to the CDC, that fed workers have been rehired at NWS, or that Rep. Jason Crow is calling for national boycotts. Now maybe I missed other posts here on Bsky, but that's sort of my point. 4/X

I'm finding that it's not enough to read posts from smart people who wail & gnash their teeth saying things like democracy is dead, no more elections, fascism is here, etc., etc., ad nauseam. I get it, but it's not helping. I'm sure I'm not the only one beginning to tune out. Not good. 3/X

For example, I did not read anywhere on social media that Dem strategist Simon Rosenberg discussed 3 new polls and concluded that voters don't like this "dictator shit." I am sure I'm not the only person who craves news like this. 2/X

D'oh! I didn't think that one through carefully, did I? This is why I should stick to librarianship. Should've gone with: Age verification? I watched Zoom way, way, WAY before meetings on Zoom.
