This is an excerpt from the fine newsletter written by Heather Cox Richardson @hcrichardson.bsky.social about dictators giving impunity to the criminals they like.

It's true, but it's a bigger problem that the U.S. justice system gives impunity to the wealthy and powerful without dictators present.

I told her not to run too.

What is "plenary authority" anyway?

It's absolute power. Not subject to judicial review.

If you feel like you're getting smacked in the face with huge, hostile carp every fucking day, it's because you are.

Always read Sarah Kendzior. (Give her money if you can, she's the primary breadwinner of her family.)

Kittens are not the cure for trauma but they are adorable.

I had aspirations for today but I have to continue sitting here for a while longer.

I hope the thing you find to do to pass the time while the brain weasels chew on the walls is diverting and wonderful.

Kittens and I are sending you good thoughts.

Image in the original post is a screen shot of a tweet from @SamStein about one of the people who resigned from the CDC. Now with #AltText

Let them know that according to me, kittens make your life better.

And according to my brother (he and his wide had five to bottle feed when a pregnant mostly feral cat gave birth in their closet then escaped out a window): AHAHAHAH

Perhaps unfortunately, I'm pretty easy to google too. I do have better things to do with my time than participating in a pissing match on social media.

Also, in general it's not worth engaging with someone who isn't at least neutral on an issue I care (one cares) about.

Why are you standing at the kitchen counter eating your lunch, Liz?

Separating someone from a cult is very difficult. It's specialized work. But there are many people who are upset and want to act, or who would be if they knew more. Those are the people to connect with and take action with.

I do in fact love The War on Cars!

I'm also active in a local complete streets advocacy group.

That feeling when your Zoom meeting ends but the kitten on your lap just put her head down and closed her eyes.

Bonus points: haven't had breakfast yet.

Got this text from Steve Schmidt, former GOP campaign leader who co-founded the Lincoln Project. He wants to raise $500k for vans with clergy and others who will film ICE raids.

People are already doing that with their phones.

Steve, maybe just show up and ask people what they need? Give to CHRLA!

Woke up and changed position. Hear that purr?
July 2, 2025 at 6:36 AM
This kitten woke up for just a moment, then put her head back down. I may never get up again.

In other, better news, there are kittens, Benny (orange) and Lilly (gray striped), and also Pippi, the calico queen.

This tall cat furniture has been underused for some years so the old cats have nothing to complain about.
