Very saddened to hear that we lost Rebecca Heineman yesterday. If you don’t know her she was a video game designer / programmer who (amongst many other achievements) is known for the 3DO port of DOOM, which by all rights shouldn’t exist. She also advocated LGBTQ+ rights with orgs such a as GLAAD.

Someone shot Lenin in the neck once. The result was three years of brutal retribution against perceived monarchists .

Someone murdered one of Stalin’s ministers once. The results were the Great Purges and gulags for which he is remembered.

Keep that in mind tonight.

Russell T Davies seems really committed to testing everyone’s patience, doesn’t he?

In less grim news, happy belated birthday to the Sims, the groundbreaking software toy which asked people “why can’t God go insane and torment eight random people?”

With four games over 25 years, the obvious question is:

Where’s the Sims 5, EA?

People are acting like Trump is invulnerable. He is not.

Fascism is theatre. It is a dangerous theatre, and it kills, but it is still just theatre.

The fascist state is not a well-organised and efficient war machine; it is crippled and corrupt mockery of republicanism.

He can be stopped.

Nosferatu - the Christmas movie we didn’t want but most definitely deserve.

Happy Public Domain Day to all who celebrate.

(And also new year, I guess).

A very good sweep in the New Year’s Honours. Jacqueline Wilson getting another promotion to Grand Dame is, in my opinion, well deserved, along with Stephen Fry, Sadiq Khan, and Andy Street.

It’s also good to see all the people recognised for their charity work, especially the hedgehog rescuers.

A lot of people are saying “the Constitution can still protect us from Trump”

No it can’t. It’s a mouldy bit of paper, it couldn’t protect you from a light drizzle. You need to protect the Constitution from him. And you won’t do that sitting on your arse and saying “that’s hardly Constitutional.”

Just watched the Doctor Who Christmas special. I definitely liked it more than last year’s one. To be honest, this was the first time Ncuti actually really won me over as the Doctor.

Spoilers in the thread below, so be warned.

I don’t like to make predictions about what will happen in the future or make sweeping allegations about motivations

BUT

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that all the billionaires started cozying up to Trump after the rest of the world showed how little people actually think of them.

Dictators seize power in moments of panic - the Reichstag Fire, the Liberator’s War, the Kirov Murder.

Congratulations to the 190 MPs on South Korea who were brave and level-headed enough to stop Woo seizing power.

Rewatching “Day of the Daleks” and there’s this brilliant scene of the Doctor talking to the regional controller and the Controller trotting out all the stock politician responses, and the Doctor calling him out on his bullshit.

My incredibly informative and reasoned take on Trump’s new wave of cabinet picks, and their potential long term impact on the west in general and the USA in particular.

Donald Trump suffers his first defeat only… negative fifty-nine days into his term.

People only ever remember the brutality of fascism, never the incompetence. But there is a LOT of incompetence.

A lot of people have fled here from Twitter. However, I never used Twitter to begin with. I regret nothing.

Anyway, hi.
