Reality is starting to intrude again tomorrow. The dog has an appointment at the vet and the Kiddo flies out for their last semester of university. The weekend will be spent working on lesson plans and it's back to work on Monday.

UGH. Having owned dogs for the last 20 years, I can confidently say that mid-30s and raining is the worst weather to have to be outside.

My husband suggested Chocolate Milk to me as a post-workout drink after my doctors had called me out for an acute lack of calcium in my diet and a rather poor showing on a bone density test. Yeah, it's the good stuff.

She was fine. Those of us who had to suffer through the sulfuric gas she produced for the next two days, however . . . .

My in-laws had a Golden Retriever that was a counter surfer, too. His best get was a pound of butter. My mother-in-law had left it out to soften so she could bake cookies with her grandkids. There were no cookies that afternoon and a dog who had to stay outside for the rest of the day.

I wish I knew! Thankfully, she was a 75lb dog and the half pound of chocolate she ate only gave her a stomach ache (and some truly epic gas - even by rotti/pit standards, it was awful).

Toblerone over here. The big airport sized one, too.

We asked the mother of the nut allergic kids to bring dessert for Christmas Eve dinner. She brought a Panettone - that had nuts in it. The kids are late teens/early 20s, no longer at home most of the time and fully capable of policing their own food. Oops. How close am I?

The Best Dog Ever!

Ask your pet-owning neighbors for a recommendation for a local vet. Ask the vet for a recommendation for a local trainer (the trainer will be primarily for you!). My husband had grown up with dogs, I'd had a cat. Our first dog was a 2 year year old Rotti/pit mix and The Best Dog ever! Have fun!

I work in an art museum. Visitors come in with lists of what they "should" see. I suggest that they ask the guards what are their favorite pieces currently on view. The guards live with the collection (many are also artists). It's how you find out about the most compelling pieces in the building.

For my 83 year old mom, it depends on the airport. LGA and ATL are huge - it takes her an hour to walk from security to a gate, with rest stops. She will miss her flight. Without a time limit, she can walk off and go at her own pace, particularly at a smaller airport like Fort Myers.

In a Manhattan courtroom with a Manhattan jury? It’s getting more and more likely.

You are being too kind to that 💩

My head is about to explode. I’m unsurprised by any of this but still infuriated. 🏳️‍⚧️

Many, many years ago, our dog had surgery and had a fentanyl patch on her back. Our neighbor is an oncologist, saw her & her patch and said "That's what I give my patients, I didn't know they used it for dogs, too."

Hubby was out with the dog around 7am, while it was still quiet. Sublime.

It often makes sense to rent for the first year or so that you live in a new place anyway, just so you have time to figure out exactly where you want to live long-term.

My niece is dyslexic. With accommodations, she graduated college with high honors, spent a year on a Fulbright scholarship, graduated law school (again with honors) and passed the bar exam. Without being allowed to type her exams (instead of hand writing), none of that would have happened.

Is this unique to the US or are you hearing this from colleagues teaching elsewhere?

And people wonder why my trans kid is only considering applying to grad schools outside of the US (currently finishing their undergrad degree, also outside of the US).

My Dad could not remember that his non-binary grandchild had changed their name. Most days, he couldn't remember my name either (and I was named after his grandmother). That is dementia. This is just meanness and blind hatred here.

Those "Important Art Museums" are huge. Go in and literally get lost. Forget the gallery map, turn a corner and wander into some unexpected gallery. Ask a security guard "what's your favorite thing that's on view right now?" That's where you find the stuff that makes you go "OH!"
