Something I've noticed: when we first started the film, Alexa was dancing on a car with flames painted on. With Vincent going into the fire in one scene. This seems like a symbolism of their dynamic, Vincent seeing through Alexa's flames. #bsueng490

I love how much symbolism is used with Alexia's trauma and situation by using cars. Cars are made by humans; in a way, this goes with Alexia's current situation of being an object of sex to the society she's surrounded by. #bsueng490

I love how stromatolite can be a metaphor for how men's deeply rooted mistreatment of women. Stromatolites are known to be the oldest fossils in our history, which can relate to the abuse of women. #BSUENG490

I think Stretch Marks is a perfect example of how society looks at abortion from different perspectives. Within Donna's abortion, she felt disconnected, and the father is oblivious to the situation. It is the shame that comes from within herself and how society looks at abortion. #BSUENG490

I want to read the second book because I'm so interested to see how Binti now has to deal with her new "transformation" and now has to go on this new journey as she continues to grow as a character. #BSUENG490

"For we have built into all of us, old blueprints of expectation and response, old structures of oppression, and these must be altered at the same time as we alter the living conditions which are a result of those structures." (293, Lorde) #BSUENG490

I am so excited to see how Bitni's character develops more, I wonder what her "transformation" will be for this novel. #BSUENG490

From Ashe's discussion, I really love the idea that Grace Corrigan is almost a representation of different "transformations". But also, in a way, she is a representation of women in our world. That in the end any of these women could of been ended like Lexie. #bsueng490

"It wasn't until I was getting into bed, that night, that I remembered: that day on the grass, when something clicked into place and I had seen that five of them as a family, Lexie as the cheeky late-baby sister...she had taken one look and seen waht hey were and what they were missing..." (pg 245)

I've noticed the post-feminism within my family; one of my cousins told me that feminism is "in the past" and we have rights. Given the circumstances we are dealing with today, I beg to differ with their opinion; there is still work to do, and we must reconsider the power feminism wields in society.

Setting the scene for a lot of mystery, it's crazy how the main character is going undercover for the murder of a college student who looks just like her. I wonder how this will go for their "transformation" (embracing the past self she wants to be??) #bsueng490

"The name that was given to you has many connotations...The python's egg means a precious child. A child of the gods or the deity themself. The experiences you've had suggest there is a spiritual connection, which you need to go and learn about."

This whole scene...just wow

"He can't make us leave...We'll always be here with you Ada. And if we sleep a little more because you have him, maybe that's a good thing. Even if he leaves, we'll be here to pick up your pieces." (Pg 156-157)
This whole scene is so heartbreaking.

I love that Asụghara is almost like a shield for The Ada. I feel like when people experience trauma, they build up their "shields" to keep themselves from harm that they've experienced. But it also, in a way, harms us for who we truly are. #bsueng490

I'm liking this book so far, it is confusing to understand the different characters, but what helped me through it was to list mental note about these characters, and how they are represented in the narrative and how they affect our main character "The Ada" #bsueng490
