Canada prepares to welcome Sweden's Royal Family to Ottawa later this week. Swedish flags flying alongside Canadian flags in front of Canada's Parliament buildings. #Sweden #Canada

Elections Canada's wall map of the last federal election is out and with the exception of the rather large riding of Nunavut which is NDP orange, it is striking how much of the map is dominated by Liberal red and Conservative blue with a sprinkling of Bloc Québécois ridings in light blue in Quebec.

I have wanted to do a Wednesday yoga class on Parliament Hill for years and finally got around to it today. It was a good class and an even better feeling that the seat of Canada's government is a place that welcomes dozens of people doing yoga on the lawn. ♥

Prime Minister Mark Carney has been at the forefront of Canada's Elbows Up campaign to fight U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs and threats to Canadian sovereignty. His elbow was up during a recent visit to a local humane society - in a very different way. 🙂 www.instagram.com/reel/DNs3rHw...

The number of Canadian-resident return car trips from the U.S. was down 36.9% in July 2025, compared with July 2024, reports Statistics Canada. "July 2025 marked the seventh consecutive month of year-over-year declines."

Should Canada's national pension plan be investing more in Canada? Currently 12% of the CPP's $714 billion is invested in Canada and 47% in the U.S. www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

King Charles and Queen Camilla headed to deliver Canada’s Speech from the Throne. First time since 1977.

It's an old adage that every single vote counts. In this case it really was one single vote (and a judicial recount) that decided the next MP for the Montreal-area riding of Terrebonne.

The flag of the Canadian Parliament's Peace Tower and other government buildings will fly at half-mast starting today until Saturday to mark the passing of Pope Francis. Prime Minister Mark Carney used the PM's discretionary power to issue the order.

Several countries are lowering their flags to mark the death of Pope Francis. Canada has not yet published a half-masting notice for the Peace Tower. Wonder if anyone has told @mark-carney.bsky.social yet that one of his powers as PM is to half-mast the flag like Justin Trudeau did for Jimmy Carter?

This could be one of the most Canadian things ever. Tomorrow's French language election debate was to take place at the same time as a key game for the Montreal Canadiens. The debate will now start 2 hours earlier at 6 p.m so it won't have to compete with hockey. media.d3.nhle.com/image/privat...

The number of Canadian residents travelling back to Canada from the U.S. was down 31.9% in March, compared with March 2024, Statistics Canada reported today. Last year there were 2.13 million trips in March, this year only 1.45 million. www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quo...

An interesting result of President Trump's threats and tariffs. My local produce store has begun sourcing fruits and vegetables from around the world. Instead of the usual Florida oranges, this weekend I saw oranges from Egypt and Morocco. Looking forward to trying them for the first time.

Looking for great Canadian vacation ideas for this summer. Where are some of the best places in Canada to visit?
One of my favourites is Quebec City.

For the first time in two years, CBC's Poll Tracker now puts the Liberal Party ahead of the Conservative Party in its projection of which party would win the most seats. Comes as a federal election call is expected within days.

Less than a week before Canadians are expected to be in a federal election campaign Angus Reid is showing the Liberal Party pulling ahead of the Conservatives. In December, the same polling firm showed the Liberals trailing by 29 points.

Photographers to prime ministers get a unique, front row seat. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's talented photographer Adam Scotti has posted an incredible series of photos including this one taken while Trudeau was speaking with U.S. President Donald Trump. cdnadamscotti.medium.com/2024-25-with...

In 2024 the Conservative Party raised $41.7 million. Wonder how much of that money it will get to spend on ads attacking new Liberal leader Mark Carney before an election is called and strict spending limits kick in?

This is what visitors to the website for Ontario's provincial liquor stores are seeing this morning in the wake of President Donald Trump's 25% tariff on Canadian goods going into effect. The LCBO buys a lot of American wine and liquor.

U.S. President Donald Trump said around 2:51 p.m. that 25% tariffs against Canada and Mexico will go into effect tomorrow. It didn't take the stock market long to react.

A snapshot of the current mood in Canada. Last week, this local store had its usual notes in smallish print at the bottom of signs, listing where a fruit or vegetable was grown. Now, the signs trumpet products that come from Canada or Mexico. There also seemed to be fewer products from the U.S.

Today the Peace Tower flag atop the Parliament's Center Block is at half-mast to honor former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, following a directive by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. A tribute from the leader of one country to the former leader of another.
