Interestingly, the term '大众评审' (public assessor) was borrowed from the Chinese singing show Super Girl, which used 31 public assessors to determine the contest winners. Taobao’s jury system similarly started with 31 assessors (later lowered to 13)

My interview suggests that it was not a direct replication but more of a platform innovation inspired by studying the jury system in the United States.
