Do you have a target species. I've seen 3 December Moths turn up, 1 in the fridge as I came indoors on my coat! Note to @kudgemz3.bsky.social they can turn up early so light early

Should add 20+ years ago it was seen in Epping Forest (no lure) involved.

I love Clearwing recording but a Large Red is a good record and most likely off my radar! Time of day and when in the year to put the lure out is very specific

This is my tried & tested notebook for trapping & garden butterfies. Plenty of abbreviations plus notes and temperature. All goes into MapMate & extracted into a spreadsheet at the end of year for the CMR. I refer back to it when the gen dets come in or a photo query or missing data on MM!

I've considered a cover - but does a perspex cover affect the UV? It's just one side that gets damp - I usually use wooden blocks to sit the trays on - but didn't last night...

I managed 2:2 in VC20 Chestnut and Turnip and a lot of soggy egg trays!

Just remember to use the same card to tap in and out 😁! My problem today was my Oyster card with added concession wasn't in my bag!!! So I had to get a paper ticket - the novelty!

You didn't post a photo of Leatherhead. Tues you visited my 2nd home (Norfolk), Wed you stopped at my childhood station. 99% of all my train journeys started there, as my mother didn't drive. Travel for her was free, mine usually so the train was our transport, maybe a bus to the station or walk!

Even with the book it still ain't easy!!! I've often potted one thinking easy! 2 hours later and I still haven't found it! So still take the photo and ask or at least get confirmation if unsure! If it is new for garden or rare unless seriously obvious I still get a second opinion!
