I’m one of the lucky ones who scored a full-time teaching position (albeit non tenure track and significantly underpaid), and I’ve done so much unpaid or severely underpaid work over the last decade that the past three years basically broke me (severe burnout). So I can’t just look the other way.

for just the semester would cost my students at least $50, and that’s money they often don’t have to spend given other life circumstances. And at the same time, this isn’t the first time an OER has struck me as problematic. I don’t have a solution here—I wish I did. (3/n)

I selected that OER because it does exactly what I need it to do: presents writing in different genres (but also includes lots of persuasive writing) on lots of different topics, usually by writers with some kind of expertise. At this point, renting (not even buying!) a similar textbook (2/n)
