2/2 “I shouldn’t draw it like an Eagle at all. I’d draw it like a Bat, for its short-sightedness; like a Bantam, for its bragging; like a Magpie, for its honesty; like a Peacock, for its vanity; and like an Ostrich, for its habit of burying its head and thinking nobody sees it.”

Orkney is just the most fabulous place. Touching those stones and thinking about what they’ve witnessed…. went last year and definitely making a return visit.

Posidonius preferred the animal metaphor, didn’t he, as he thought it better demonstrated the interdependence of the three areas?

Really looking forward to reading the book, but the link doesn’t take me to the handbook and a search has no results….

I’m enjoying listening to Donald Robertson’s ‘Marcus Aurelius, the Stoic Emperor’. Great story and he’s got a very soothing voice!

I couldn’t resist the ‘For you’ thread on Twitter so decided cold turkey would be the best option. Not to mention adverts for solar panels every three or four posts….

Ooh, do share the instructions…!

Fascinating! But couldn’t Caesar have referred to later emperors or does the date mean it must be JC?

All the shoes in the museum at Vindolanda do it for me!

That always bugs me about The Guardian, too, although not on a par with how the poor writers must feel. But unusually they’ve now added in that it’s on Apple TV.
