It’s #NationalFossilDay and I’m spotlighting the T. rex from @amnh.org

This specimen is one that was very influential on me when I was a child. Seeing this individual is likely the reason I have such a passion for dinosaurs, animals, and science in general.

It’s #FossilFriday and I’m spotlighting Dunkleosteus!

Dunkleosteus is a prehistoric fish called a placoderm that lived in the Devonian, millions of years before the dinosaurs. It had tough armor and self-sharpening jaws. This one is from Charleston, SC.

It’s #FossilFriday, and I’m spotlighting Appalachiosaurus.

This was a mount that I saw at the Tellus Museum. Appalachiosaurus is noteworthy for being the only large theropod found east of the Rockies. It was a relative of T. rex.

It’s #FossilFriday, and this week’s spotlight is Sarcosuchus.

This is another specimen I saw in Paris. Sarcosuchus was a massive croc native to Cretaceous South America and Africa. It’s estimated to have grown to be 31 feet long and weighed 4.3 metric tons.

It’s #FossilFriday, and this week I’m spotlighting Nanotyrannus.

This one is a controversial genus. Some argue that Nanotyrannus is a valid genus, while others insist that it’s simply a misidentified juvenile T. rex. The jury is still out on this one.

I did some rehousings of the arachnids the other night, and I gotta say that I’m loving these Thrive enclosures. The fact that they’re designed to be stackable is a huge bonus.

Went out herping this week and saw some cool species. Eastern copperhead, eastern cottonmouth, and an American alligator.

I need to do this more often.
