Brown hare backlit by early morning sun anxiously watching signatures on the petition heading for 30,000. I'm sure you've signed the petition to protect hares from shooting in the breeding season, but any more family and friends to sign? petition.parliament.uk/petitions/72...

There’s so much ghastliness in the world right now. This morning I hid in my studio & started working on a new tiny triptych of a mouse in a hawthorn tree. Sometimes it’s good to focus on the small miracles of nature just to help one get by

Friday comes around again and with it snapping at our heels I hope you can take some time this weekend to reconnect & recharge with nature. Just grab a chance to sit for a while and listen to the birds. It’s the best medicine

Now that the rain has stopped for 24 hours We went to see what’s left of our bridge into the woods. Heavy solid oak timbers washed away, again. Another thing to add to the jobs to do list 😬😢🤔🙄👀

I’ve spent today painting an icon of a mouse while listening to the rain drumming down on the studio roof. Tomorrow it’s whiskers and a plant between its paws.

Even on a dreek damp autumn day, the goldfinches that tumble about the Farm I like a shower of jewels. The tinkling song and red and gold flashes of colour brighten the day. Each one a tiny feathered miracle of design.

Take a break and have a quick quiet peek at the latest addition to the mice icons/triptychs. This one is in the process of hanging a stitchwort garland up. Painted on 23 C gold leaf and vintage Italian folding panels.

Any shares of this much appreciated! When my ex-publishers collapsed, taking over £20,000 of my earnings with them into the void, all my books suffered but none more than 1983. This is me trying to repair that. It’s about:
Childhood
Education
Aliens
Alpacas
The East Midlands
The old future we lost

A grey damp morning the sky an emulsion matt and heavy. I am remembering the Queen bees now in their winter nest secretly slumbering in a state of suspended readiness for all the flowers of next spring. The bluebells the Honeysuckle hedges. The Golden bees of all our tomorrows hidden like Roman gold

Today’s #1000postcards is one of my favourite moths. The Ermine reminds me of the black and white costumes , from the scene at the races, in the film My Fair Lady. So elegant! and a really fiddly one to paint
