This week we were working on an arcade like game that expresses and idea or feeling. I decided to iterate on my brick breaker game since I figured it would be good to work out my bugs and make it look a lot nicer #SmallGameStudio

#SmallGameStudioArcade3 I played a game called Do You Love the Color of the Sky. You control the ways the planets move to create a galaxy while we change colors. They can move us as well and also change our color.

#SmallGameStudioArcade3 I played Become A Great Artist In 10 Seconds which you can mess around with keys to change the art on the screen. It’s fun and allows you to mess around with different effects. There’s an auto artist feature which will draw for you.

#SmallGameStudioArcade3 I played melt which was about intimacy in relationships. You click a mouse to bring the circles together or to take them apart while they continue to rotate around each other .

#SmallGameStudioArcade3 I played a game called Diving Bell which forces you to press space to sink. If you let go of space you rise to the top and lose, and if you hold space you continue sinking.

#SmallGameStudioArcade3 I played The Marriage which is a game that simulates the give and take relationship of marriage. If we touch the circles the wife gets smaller and the husband gets bigger, but the husband can also even out the mother and the mother can touch the circles to get bigger.

#SmallGameStudioArcade3 The first game I played was called Loneliness and it was about a small square trying to find connection but whenever they approached other squares the squares would flee and then fade out. You couldn’t win, you could only go until the screen turned black.

This week we worked on 2D arcade games. I had difficulty deciding what I wanted to make but then decided on a brick breaker game as I always enjoyed playing those when I was younger. #SmallGameStudio

This past week we’ve been working with C# to make a text based game. For me, this meant a choose your own adventure game where the players can go towards a cute market or a beautiful ocean. I started by making sure the text transitions worked before jumping in to scenery. #SmallGameStudio

#SmallGameStudioArcade2 The last game I played was Taxonomy of Narrative Choice where you learn about the different narrative choices that games can give you. It’s very fun and interactive and is a good way to learn about different narrative tools used in writing.

#SmallGameStudioArcade2 We played a game called called AI dungeon where you offer a prompt of your character, the plot, and where you are. Then it will generate a story based on your answer. You can guide the story or let the computer do the work.

#SmallGameStudioArcade2 My first game was a sort of adventure game where you explore the area by typing where you want to go. We decided to not listen to instructions and see if we could figure it out, which we kind of did, but not all the way.

This week we learned the basics of C# and I was really surprised to learn it is very similar to Java (a language I have a lot of experience using) so I was very excited to start coding a language I was familiar with. #SmallGameStudio

This week I worked on my first Project being a short walking simulator. My idea for the game is that you are lost in the woods and come across a house in a clearing. The house stands alone, and having nowhere else to go, you head inside. #SmallGameStudio

#SmallGameStudioArcade1 I played a lock picking simulator where you learn how to pick locks in different games. It was really fun to see the mechanics and how they change from game to game.
April 10, 2025 at 5:56 PM
#SmallGameStudioArcade1 For my next game I played The Catacombs of Solaris Revisited where you are in a color maze but the walls change every time you stop. It hurts your eyes, if you keep moving it’s manageable but every time you stop it really hurts your eyes.
April 10, 2025 at 5:45 PM
#SmallGameStudioArcade1 We played a game called Alien Caseno where you go to an alien bar and caseno and see their environment. It’s very fun and lighthearted.
