The #issue started as something minuscule, yet the longer they didn’t talk about it or try to resolve it, the bigger it grew. Eventually the chasm created was too big to bridge. #vss365

#Transport to the other side was a nightmare as Eileen found out. Delays, lots of standing around, forms to complete and a queue miles long outside the pearly gates.

After what seemed like hours, a message went out and she was turned away, suddenly found herself back in her hospital bed. #vss365

‘You need a #science,’ her father said reviewing Libby’s A Level choices.

‘She’ll do fine without,’ her mother chirped. ‘Follow what you love,’ she added giving her husband the side eye. ‘Don’t compromise on matters of the heart no matter what logic or reason may suggest.’

‘I guess his #number was finally up,’ she says as they lowered his coffin into the ground.

He had been like a cat with 9 lives but his luck ran out this time. I imagined a giant cheese counter in the sky ticking onto the next number and the next, wondering when my number would get called. #vss365

She began each day at the library smiling at the books and felt convinced they smiled back. The shelves held works of great #literature by long gone authors, brightly illustrated children’s books, well read crime novels, spicy fantasy stories. Life was here between the pages. She was home. #vss365

They came for her under the cover of night and under the pretence of the #law. But she had learnings passed down from generations before her. The woods hid her, kept her and her secrets safe. #vss365

I give him the side eye over the top of my drink.

‘You pair got #history?’ she asks.

‘You could say that,’ I say, returning my eyes to meet hers.

She doesn’t know, is new in town. I wonder how long until someone tells her and then she’ll make some excuse to stop seeing me.

The #creature only wanted affection, a little tenderness. It loped forwards towards the two girls playing in the sunshine. The bright light made its head thrum with pain and it reached out to the children for comfort. One screamed, the other recognised the hurt and the creature began to cry. #vss365

Last night, I saw you leave the laboratory to take a call. I went inside and saw the dead guinea pig revive. Your #experiment was successful. Its soulless stare made me destroy it without your knowledge. The resurrection serum would make death restless.

Have fun, #experiment, try something new, be kind, cook a new recipe, take a walk in the Autumn leaves, stroke a random cat, read a new author, write a letter to a stranger, reconnect with an old friend, hold those you love close. For who knows what tomorrow brings. #vss365

They told her she was special, raised her well, taught her skills other kids didn’t know. Said she should keep these things a secret, no one need know. One day she overheard a tutor calling her an #experiment, sneering in her direction. She was mad but she’d get even later as he’d find out. #vss365

It's the time of year to let the cold #creep into your bones, ghosts of the past cloud your vision, and demons dance in your heart. Which side of the veil will you end up on?

#Creep softly, slowly my dear, she told me. You never know when you’ll need to vanish into the night. Practice, practice. And I did. As a child it became a game we played. Her and I making our way gently through the woods near home. On the night they came I vanished, like she’d predicted. #vss365

Beautiful alabaster skin
I couldn’t have her
She thought me a #creep
So I grabbed her
Not wanting to let go
She broke cracked shattered
Like a porcelain doll
But I lovingly patched her up
Now she lays with me every night
As I read her the Frankenstein story

I spent my extra hour reading #Carrie by @stephenking.bsky.social It was released when I was eleven and somehow I’d not read it. It was time to rectify that and reading it in the morning seems preferable to just before sleep 😱 Plus we are in #spooky season. Thank you Mr King for all the stories.

Ever since they put the 'Beware: Frogs' sign on the lane in our village I have been totally on guard, wired, spinning around, vigilant for frogs in every way. It is as if I have eyes in the back of my head.

I don’t look back. I can see the #terror in his eyes as he stares beyond me. Instead I run, shouting to him to do the same, but he doesn’t move. From a distance I hear his screams. Dense smoke swirls like fog, a crackle of fire, a scent of something unrecognisable. I still don’t look back. #vss365

At first she hated that age had made her invisible. But growing older had its merits, especially when the killing began. Nobody would ever believe it was her. She operated in the world #unseen and the discount rail card gave her access to new places, new experiences, new victims. #vss365
