Just remembered this banger from Inspector Gadget (1999).

Progress on @vowel.cc: I have one dependency (Remark). On execution, Vowel reads your markdown files and writes basic HTML to an output folder.

I'm using node:sqlite for the cache and I'm working on a plugin system for handling different file types (images, fonts, styles).

Vim-style commands in Chrome ~

Create a JavaScript bookmarklet in Chrome to execute a little action (e.g. "click_save"), then in Vimium (assuming its already installed) map `:` to open the bookmarks Vomnibar. Type `:click_save` to run your JavaScript 🔥

Woahh Helix Editor now has a built-in file explorer.

(If you're used to normal computer interfaces, this post seems like it comes out of the 1970s. If you've ever tried to set up Vim, this feels like a utopian future.)

Exciting hardware upgrade: I ordered an original FireWire charger for my 4th-generation iPod, and it charges way faster than a USB charger. I can finally reliably charge my iPod, which is great because I use this thing friggin constantly.

Just learned that there's been a huge explosion in flimsy studies that make wild claims like "eggs cause dementia." This meta-analysis found three per year in the 2010s and then *two hundred* last year. 😟 journals.plos.org/plosbiology/...

Going to book a doctor's appointment and the booking portal is forcing me to stare at some B2B marketing AI nonsense for ten seconds first.

I opened pinterest yesterday for the first time in ages to track down my chocolate cake recipe. Today I opened pinterest and the homepage presented me with thirteen new chocolate cake recipes. I feel like we're using technology wrong.

Noo this is real. I’ve done this for ten years. My little sister makes fun of me for it. I got the idea from an article in wired: www.instagram.com/p/rK55I6lWn7/

I spent hours trying to find the right pre-amp or stereo receiver or audio interface or DAC to be able to switch my computer audio from headphones to external speakers without un-plugging and in-plugging, and finally settled on this $25 box from Amazon, which works perfectly.

For years observers have warned us that “if you’re not paying for the product, you are the product.” But wow if it doesn’t feel bleak to see the words “Pay for Privacy” written out plain as day.

(From a UK news site.)

So, obviously, I made a spreadsheet of the essential amino acids in various protein sources to engineer a balanced combination: docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

I'm doing a 2:3 mix of brown rice and pea. Unlike the packaged stuff, it has no sugar, no flavoring, no additives.

As a technical writer, I have to respect Apple's hustle in pushing their brand style guide into the literal dictionary — as if mis-capitalizing "Macbook" is just as grave a mistake as writing "definately."

I'm sure IKEA would love it if they could push their unhinged all-caps brand style like this.

For comparison, here's detail from a photo I shot on Kodak Ektar, which is advertised as having the sharpest grain in the world. You can see plenty of grain. The shadows are rather grey, not black. The greens are softer.

Halifax's housing market is insane, but you can still buy a house downtown for $650,000 — which gives me the unsettling feeling that the real market adjustment in Halifax's North End still hasn't happened.

I’ve got my 120gb monochrome iPod set up with about 6000 high-res songs, all tagged and organized 😌 (I think I’m at 20% capacity).

It even has dynamic playlists based on multiple genres and sub-genres like “Chill Indie” or “Canadian.”
