My two favorites in my collection are The Fannie Farmer Cookbook and The Frugal Gourmet (even though Jeff Smith turned out to be an a-hole). These were my dad's and the open to some of the recipes of my childhood.

Some newer ones are The Joy of Cooking for One, and the I Hate to Cook Cookbook

I found out that the one MC was based on a real person and not just inspired by said person, but her description of the character is what this person looks like in real life according to what I was reading along with other problematic issues.

true but when an author has no problem including things that are just morally wrong in her books and will fight you on it when called out that turns me off her and anything she may write

not with this author, apparently she's written books with sex with minors, she has posted the content warnings are spoilers, and the one main character in the book i read was based on a real person and there was a discussion on did he inspire it, or is it him which kinda creeped me out.
