I agree, yet don't. We write and edit 300 pages. That takes, let's say a year. We're good at it after that. Then we condense it down to a few paragraphs, over a few weeks. It's a totally different way of writing that we never have as much experience with. Practice. It gets easier.

People have "replaced" dead pets and even dead children. It doesn't recreate the past, bring back the loved one. Nor is it ever a mistake to give love to another when we have more love to give.

That's what I think everyone is juggling. Appearances. Media circus is not desired. Trump in jail shows that our legal system works, and for everybody. It is also one heck of an embarrassment for us to have a former president jailed. If situations can be mitigated, they will be.

I wrote a series. I killed off several MC's. Requirement if the time span is long enough. Nobody is eternal in my world.

Researched and realistic are not the same. Unrealistic takes us out of the moment, when we recognize it. I've written gun silencers the way they are depicted in movies. So few would recognize the reality. Though accurate, it would remove them from the story. Joseph Campbell, The Power of Myth.

All true. 😀

Twitter has begun charging and it's not as good as it once was. (Main reason I'm here.) Nothing is ever free. With some platforms and social media, we pay by having ads on our feeds and having to conform to community standards. But "free" can have some great quality.

I find this interesting, slightly humorous. We ancients watched free TV, shows and movies. The costs were the ads and that they were censored to fit community standards. Then we paid for no ads and freedom of content. Now we're back where we started (with some platforms).

I like trying different things. Plus, I've been writing 55 years. That's a lot of time to do the things I prefer and have time for experimentation. Not so much a "wow."

I have a few like this that give me a hard time. I can use an "alphabet trick" for many. In the alphabet, A comes before I. Lay a book down before it can lie there. Of course, any trick or rule in English has hundreds of exceptions. Your acceptance is probably better than most.

I like challenges. The majority of my writing these days are essays. That's what I've always enjoyed best. I've written every genre, every type of fiction/nonfiction, except a play or screenplay. I've written different styles and voices. It's still fun to step outside my comfort zone.

Yes, there are times when I, you, all of us, have looked at a page and asked, "what the heck is that?" You have my sympathy. Rambling helps me clear my mind. But it's also frustrating when I have to throw it all away.

I was neither of those. But did have jobs and "hobbies" that had emotional investment. It's hard to leave behind. Write during the week for relaxation. A few words, minutes per day is plenty. Proper diet, sleep, fun, and you'll hopefully find your mind not completely blank on weekends. Good luck.

Good hack. Most of my writing was done this way, meals or otherwise. 'Rice set to simmer, I have 20 minutes to write.'

When I need to stop (sleep, appointment) I stop anywhere. I write a note to tell me what I was thinking for the next paragraphs, chapters. I flag it, same as when a previous something needs expansion. ****friend sacrifice, mc hurt, calls mom, no revenge cuz girlfriend pregnant, revenge later****

I have no clue if there's a protocol. I just followed you. I'm sure the more experienced will soon tell me I'm doing it all wrong. Until then...

We gripe about Hollywood having no imagination. Many writers want to craft unique. Star Wars had 3 great movies. Each trilogy after that did not tell the exact same story, was a disappointment for fans. Often, it is not what we do but how we do it that matters most.

I use some name brands. No, not hoping for endorsement deals. Where I live, tissues and sodas are never called that. Those are Kleenex and Cokes.

A farmer tended a young grove for 3 years. She noticed in year 4 that the saplings were not as tall as she'd hoped and had a disease. Clearcutting the grove, starting over, was her first thought. Instead, she added fertilizer and medicine. It's usually more productive to fix what we have.

Prioritize. 'Why should I write this?' Actors do the blockbuster film first to have money to do the artistic film. If your passions are equal, ask which project will benefit you the most. This can be money, will likely be in terms of satisfaction or release of angst. Then no thought but to finish.

True. I write everything on a keyboard. For reasons I can't explain, my poetry and how I keep track of timelines in novels, MUST be written with a pen in a notebook. Makes no sense, oh well, that's what works for me. 😀

My series covers thousands of years in 13 books. The first novel is a space of two weeks. I have a computer file and a notebook. Notebook is easier to access. In it, there is nothing but chronology. Dates of births, deaths, major events, so on. It's downright ugly, but I understand it.

It often does not. Some are a matter of how the same tale is told. Terry Brooks wrote a popular "rip-off" of Tolkien. Great first book. Each sequel was identical. Not a fan. I get what he was trying to do. Moorcock did it better with The Eternal Champion series. Same novels, completely different.

The problem is not new. I gave up 4 decades ago and my writing improved. However, I'm not advising it. I write for more mature adults. My essays usually advocate equality. My story themes gentle. Yet the language, especially dialogue, is often harsh or seemingly without thought. That's how we speak.
