I am a bilingual, agnostic feminist who loves music, reading, travel, and community involvement. “Listos for Life” is my DBA as a Learning Success Coach: I help teens learn Spanish/English, address their social-emotional needs and teach them how to learn.
Do you know someone starting their college journey who could use support to establish new routines/be their best self?

I offer:

🌟 ongoing, one-on-one coaching support over the course of the year, or

🌟 intake sessions that result in a plan they could use to find support services on campus

Figuring most school years have ~170-180 days of school, I’ve been at this for somewhere around 4,000 instructional days.

Taking out the four days I’m planning to take off between now and May 30, I have 8 more days of instruction and two of exams left in my classroom teaching career.

Bittersweet!

I remember the 1988 election between George HW Bush and Michael Dukakis being the first one I paid attention to. I had just turned 12. Fast forward to four years later and I was a (young!) senior in high school, living in a pretty liberal small town in Southern California.

@kellybarnhill.bsky.social I just finished reading _When Women Were Dragons_! The last few chapters are pure poetry. Brava! Now I need to convince my 15 year old daughter to get off her phone and read it, too!

Love seeing this at a church here in Texas where I live! Communities of faith SHOULD be more welcoming and accepting. You know, like Jesus.

Wishing you all peace, grace, and love on this sacred day.

School is out in less than 7 weeks! Do you know a teen or preteen who could use some support to finish the year strong, and continued support over the summer?

I have been a middle/high school teacher for over 20 years. I also have two of my own kids, finishing up 5th and 9th grade. (See comments)

**Why Empathy is Key to Improving Communication Skills in Language Learners**

Language learning is more than just vocabulary and grammar—it’s about connection. When learners develop **empathy**, they strengthen their ability to communicate effectively and confidently. Here’s why:

Both of my parents have a green thumb. I’ve never really tried to take care of plants. But lately I’ve taken an interest in it. I love walking into my home office and seeing all of my green friends.

I bought this sweet spring cactus on a whim at Walgreens. Its happy red flowers make me smile. (1/2)

On a whim, I took my son to watch a track meet yesterday where students from my school were competing at the stadium next to my son’s school. When a parent in the stands asked me “Who is your student?” I proudly replied,
”All of them!” I’m going to miss that when I leave the classroom.

Back in 2019, I had been teaching Spanish at the same school for about nine years, and they trusted/asked me to teach what’s called an Exploratory Languages class… (continued in the comments!)

Today’s agenda included phone calls to international schools in Mexico, a walk to the beach, and a visit to my niece and nephew’s alma mater.

Do you know any young people who could use more support to be successful in school and life? I can help! www.learningsuccessacademy.com/coach-liz-sc...

New analogy for what is currently happening in DC: it’s as if a football coach who never was a classroom teacher was somehow hired to be the principal. And he hired all of his assistant coaches who have also never been classroom teachers to staff the school. Spoiler alert: It’s not going to end well.

I’m living the dream! Today I was able to spend time with part of my SoCal family and also work online with a client. I love the flexibility of being a Learning Success Coach!

If I’ve done one thing right in this life, it has been taking advantage of opportunities to grow when they come my way.

💕 What’s one kind thing you’ve done for a stranger this month? 💕

If you haven’t yet, what’s one act of kindness on your bucket list?

🌟 Leave an uplifting note?
☕ Treat someone to coffee?
🚪 Hold the door for someone with a smile?

Let’s make the world a little kinder, one small act at a time.

💭 If you could go back in time, what’s one piece of advice you’d give younger you?

Would you tell them to take that risk? Remind them to rest? Or just let them know they’re doing their best?

If you are a parent of preteens or teens studying Spanish at school, you might be wondering how to help them at home. As a Spanish teacher with over 20 years of classroom teaching experience, I got this question from parents all the time. (1/8)
