The collection features works by renowned artists such as Titian, Rembrandt, Vermeer, and the Impressionists. Antonio Canova (1757-1822) was the son of a stone cutter from Possagno, a small town in the foothills of the Dolomites. Canova went on to be the most celebrated sculptor of his age. The sculpture of the Three Graces is widely considered to be his masterpiece. In Greek mythology, the three graces were the daughters of Zeus: Aglaia (splendour), Euphrosyne (mirth) and Thalia (youth and beauty). Over the centuries, the group became associated with various allegorical meanings, including generosity and friendship or personifications of chastity, beauty and love. It seems likely that Canova was more interested in conveying a generalised idea of grace and elegance than in rendering any specific mythological associations.

Any light through the dense leaves is quite dull from the cloud cover apart from a glimpse of blue sky on the right of the picture. Talkin Tarn is a kettle-hole lake formed by the immense force of glaciers 18,000 years ago. Moving ice scoured and carved the landscape leaving glacial sand hills and a natural bowl, which filled with water as the ice sheet melted. The name Talkin is derived from the Celtic 'Talcan' meaning brow of a hill.

A view of the Tyne Bridge (opened 1928), Newcastle upon Tyne from the Gateshead Millennium Bridge (opened 2001) on a cloudy October day. Seven bridges span Newcastle and Gateshead's quayside. There are six of them in this picture viewed from the seventh and newest, the Gateshead Millennium Bridge (2001) Defining Newcastle more than any other piece of architecture is the Grade II listed green arched steel Tyne Bridge (1928). Behind this are the Swing Bridge (1876) a red and white wrought-iron bridge that pivots on a central point to allow ships to pass. Once known as 'Lang Legs' the High Level Bridge (1849) a combined road and rail crossing at 120 feet above the river. Next upriver is the Queen Elizabeth Metro Bridge (1981) painted brilliant blue, then the King Edward VII Rail Bridge (1906) and finally, the concrete Redheugh Bridge (1983) - only one of the supporting concrete piers is visible in this image.

The image shows the Moore Memorial Fountain, a prominent landmark located in the Market Place of Wigton, Cumbria, England. The iron railings around it are covered in poppies for Remembrance Day. Either side of the fountain and running into the distance are the Georgian buildings on the High Street. It is an elaborate granite fountain, erected in 1872 by George Moore, a renowned philanthropist and businessman, as a memorial to his first wife, Eliza. It was built at a cost of £12,000. In 1872 the average wage of a farm labourer was £0.63 (12 shillings and 8 pence) a week. The memorial is built from polished Shap granite and features four bronze relief sculptures by Pre-Raphaelite sculptor Thomas Woolner, depicting the "Acts of Mercy". The sculptures show "Visiting the Afflicted", "Clothing the Naked", "Instructing the Ignorant", and "Feeding the Hungry". Above the bronzes, on each side is a small carving in granite of the face of Eliza, surrounded by leaves. The memorial stands in the centre of the town, on the site of an earlier medieval market cross.
