Maybe not 47%, but it has increased. There are more journals and the expectation is higher even in infancy research.

Letters are mostly not useful, however I have seen a few cases in which there were red flags in the letters that allowed us to avoid a big problem. I think they are an important piece, but agree they shouldn’t be required for all applicants.
