Spent three hours with my wonderful editor Tara from Fresh Water Press yesterday. What a joy it is to work with her! I'm so lucky!

It's so fun to find a new author to love. After I read The People We Keep by Allison Larkin, I immediately picked up her other books: Stay, Why Can't I Be You, and Swimming for Sunlight. And there's a new one! Got to go and get it. Bye!

Movie: Love Serenade - A DJ comes to town, two sisters vie for his attention. Writers, it's a script where at the end, you slap your forehead, your mind rolls back, the plot was there all along!

The perfect quote for my novel's epigraph, from Bob Edwards: “I couldn't be myself. That never works. You have to be yourself on the radio.” Thank you WHYY in Philadelphia & NPR!

Big news! After doing (another) major rewrite of my novel, I have secured a meeting with a trad publisher! It's called Radio Starr, a story about identity set in the world of 1980s radio.

Over 200 copies of Ray Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451” were bound using asbestos! (It's about a dystopian future where books are banned--and burned.) I just learned this on a great show for writers, A Way With Words.

I'm currently studying Robert McKee's "Story: Style, Structure, Substance, and the Principles of Screenwriting." Wish I could remember who recommended it for authors of novels. It's giving me so much insight!

I'm formatting the interior of my radio novel using Atticus. It's fun to create full-page Part art, and write the front and back matter. I found a great quote from Bob Edwards, NPR Morning Edition host from 1979-2004, that fits perfectly with the novel's theme of you have to be yourself on the air.

I'm writing as if it was NaNoWiMo, as I spent most of November editing my first novel. I've decided to publish both book 1 and 2 at the same time. Book 2 needs about 40,0000 more words!

This note from my editor-in-progress just made my day! “You're a great writer, and it's a pleasure to read. I'm making notes to help you elevate it to the next level and get it ready for publication, and I've caught a few things that slipped through the cracks with all your revisions!”

I love this book of short stories by Christopher Chambers, my first editor and instructor at UW-Madison. Haunting stories and some wicked writing!
