My Aunt Pete and Uncle Bob were good friends of my parents who also witnessed their wedding. Both my parents were only children; I was in my teens when I figured this out.

Growing up, I had an Aunt Pete and Uncle Bob. They weren't blood relations at all. They were friends of my parents and, in facts, the witnesses for my parents' wedding. I figured out they weren't actually related in high school but still referred to them as Aunt and Uncle.
