I have noticed this in many toki pona spaces. I have come to avoid these spaces.

While I agree that these people exist within the community, I think looking at it in this black and white way is a mistake. many academics involved in toki pona are also injured, and there also exist people who don't fit into either category. a lot of art made with toki pona is beautiful.

wow that's pretty interesting! this is a marked usage of toki pona.

it's almost like esperanto has more speakers than toki pona and has existed for much longer idk

it's mostly stuff about what toki pona can't do. "toki pona can't do xyz"

the illogic here is that i have used toki pona to do xyz before MANY times, and so have others. so the theory that toki pona can't do them doesn't fit the observations and is therefore incorrect!

oh the cutoff point would be arbitrary if we had one, i'm just saying it isn't useful to even have one

most of the people who claim to be fluent would struggle to hold a conversation about complicated topics in toki pona so i don't really trust anyone who says they're fluent unless i know them and have been speaking with them
November 21, 2025 at 3:16 PM
i mean that's just my analysis, others will disagree and say there are fluent toki pona speakers
November 21, 2025 at 3:09 PM
there are no fluent toki pona speakers

what happened here was someone had a(n incorrect in my opinion) take about toki pona that was loosely in the same category of my video, and used my name to hype up their argument. i will never make a video that argues in favor of the strong sapir whorf hypothesis.

you'd be right! i haven't read the study it's based on so i recommend double checking before spreading this further, but there is an article about how being multilingual can increase life expectancy by three years. it's at the very least correlated.

yeah. and that one time a dad taught his kid klingon, the kid wasn't receptive to it and stopped speaking it or understanding it, but it didn't have any negative impacts on him at all. so it is a nothing burger with nothing on it.

in addition to other languages. they specified this later on. the reasoning that it was a valid comparison was that both are "forcing a hobby onto your child"

ignoring the physical danger of taking an infant cave diving. and the lack of danger of teaching them toki pona.
November 20, 2025 at 4:43 PM
someone on ma pona made this comparison and everyone was like "makes sense, teaching toki pona to your child is dangerous, this is a valid and useful comparison"

it's the worst argument i've seen all month. like actually i don't think im exaggerating there.

nah i'm calquing biblical hebrew. in biblical hebrew when your nose becomes hot you're getting upset basically. it's an idiom.
