I told my DM I wanted to play a ranger, he said dnd rangers are bad and I should play an archery fighter instead. I decided to stick with gloomstalker ranger and add fighter at level 6/7 (for action surge).
He eventually gave me what I wanted, a cow + I get to be a cowboy
