I saw Blue Velvet as a teen and it was one of the weirdest/creepiest/beautifully filmed movies I had seen. I was into foreign film and it was the first time I saw an American push the boundaries of beauty and art in film instead of an idealized version of society. He tapped into a darker vibe.
