Franksville, Harlem & Addison in Chicago IL. I should probably visit this place at some point after seeing their epic hot dog locomotive sign for decades. I think the sign looks better in daylight when it’s unlit and the engineer’s face doesn’t have quite as much of a lunar white pallor.

“What’s wrong, babe? You haven’t touched your thanksgiving pizza.”

It’s the green beans and “gravy drizzle” where they lose me. This strikes me as an aggressively awful idea, but in all honesty I’d try it.

It’s not much, but we do now have snow. The dogs were unimpressed.

Shout out to everyone who puts up outdoor Thanksgiving decorations, helping maintain a buffer zone between Halloween and Christmas. You’re the real ones.

There are now bananas that have Zootopia 2 character stickers on them. Just letting you know in case any of you are fans of the franchise and are in the market for a banana.

Giant Dog & I went to the forest preserve off leash dog area Saturday & walked about a 2 mile loop. She enjoyed it except for the parts that were just a trail though tall grass, when another dog and their person came from the other direction it made her nervous and she had to press up against me.

We only had one kid in a K-Pop Demon Hunter themed costume visit the house (Rumi), but one neighbor had a lovely Derpy Tiger Jack-o-lantern. Extra points for the knocked over flower pot next to it.

An Amazon deep discount site had sales offering screen protectors for cybertrucks, a gold plastic dollar sign pendant, and a bunch of Punisher skull decals, all for a penny each. Somewhere I guess there’s someone I probably wouldn’t have a lot to talk about with who got their shopping done for 3¢.

Yadda yadda yadda, I went to the Affy Tapple factory store.
October 29, 2025 at 10:22 PM
I only recently learned Affy Tapples, a brand of packaged apples dipped in caramel and rolled in peanuts, are historically a Chicago thing. If you haven’t had one: they’re okay. Love the aggressively mid-century box art with the cartoon dude wearing an apron and bow tie. Are you familiar with these?

Points to Lillian Hoban for drawing Frances as an American badger (Taxidea taxus) as opposed to a European badger (Meles meles) like most badger characters tend to be portrayed. Unlike Badger from Wind in the Willows, Frances looks like if she doesn’t get her bread and jam she could mess you up.

I feel like there’s a good chance Crazy Harry would have been there.

So you can get various animal masks with moving jaws at Spirit, labeled as “furry”. The bull one actually doesn’t look bad, but it’s very thin flocked plastic that reminded me of those cheap Batman costumes with the plastic face mask with a little slot for the mouth you’d see back in the ‘80s.

Went into a Spirit Halloween for the first time last night, was greeted with a sight calculated to strike terror into the hearts of suburban strip mall patrons: mass transit.

While traveling last month I saw a sign for ABC Seamless siding, promoted by a cartoon duck asserting that it’s “The Siding Without the QUACKS!” Sure, cracks -> quacks -> duck, but it’s unclear why the duck is wearing a trilby an trench coat. Is it a spy? A duck Inspector Gadget?

I’m seeing articles about “coffee badging”, where employees start their work day at home, commute to the office long enough to badge in & have a cup of coffee to satisfy their employer’s be-at-the-office requirements, then drive home and finish their work day there. Anyway, new fursona just dropped.

I was looking at an HP Victus 15 that’s like $657 on Amazon with 1TB SSD, so hoping to keep it to that much or less. Realistically not looking for a high end gaming beast, just an everyday use machine I could maybe play some WoW or HoI7 etc with the right settings and not end up hating life.

I just learned that there’s a character in Fiddler on the Roof named Laserwolf. This musical is starting to sound cooler than I’d thought. (Artist’s conception)
