I had similar with a venerable Acorn System One where a previous owner had foregone the memory config header and a couple of logic chips by cutting tracks and hard wiring the settings. Some of the bridge wires were in a bad state too so the whole lot was reverted.

Pretty sure I have a distribution amp or some active box somewhere made by them and still going strong after decades.

Yep. I did a stint (8 months) of shift on a project. We had 3 round-the-clock shifts, living in a hotel. On evenings with a pint in the bar, we'd be with colleagues going on the night shift, having slept all day - so they'd be noshing a full English with their pint before heading out. Happy days.
