Linguist at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (www2.hawaii.edu/~acheng20/). Last name sounds like the first syllable of "jungle". (he/him)
... ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, olelo Niihau, te reo Māori, Hawaiian Sign Language, and Rapa Nui. I'm pleased that our program's focus on Indigenous (and/or endangered) languages of the Pacific Region really shines through in their choice of topics to study.

Great point! I wrote about this and also about Korean Americans' reactions to Greta Lee's Korean in Past Lives. Audiences want linguistic realism, but there's a very narrow perception of what "realistic languaging" sounds like.

... Northern Vietnamese, Taiwanese Hokkien, Eastern Andalusian Spanish, Cebuano, Georgian, Pastaza Kichwa, Telugu, Romanian, Sinhala, and Ibanag! Just a taste of the amazing linguistic diversity here in Honolulu.
