Preparing a visual brief for a cartographer (who will be making a map for my article in @ancientwarfare.bsky.social on 'vexillations' in the Roman Army in the C2nd AD) is an interesting challenge, meaning reconciling written accounts with archaeological finds. (📷 is my own).

"Why is Augustus part of the public school canon in History?" I have spent much of my life as a researcher trying to understand Augustus. However you perceive him, for all the paradox he is, Augustus deserves to be studied.
