Education advocacy tends to be a state and local endeavor. Paying attention to your state and local boards of education is the best way to stay on top of education policy in your state. I'm involved in county-level PTA work, which is great here but it may be different in other communities.

Disease groups are amazing at advocacy. Groups like the American Cancer Society (Disclaimer: I worked there from 2004-2011), American Diabetes Association, Alzheimer's Association, American Heart Association and many more have active state and federal advocacy operations.
