Winter sunset from the spa. Kookaburras calling in the background and a fire inside when we’re all done

Old shoe lasts from India. Teak, around 100 years old.
Repurposed as coat hooks. Just polished and photographed, these beauties will be coming to our market stall next weekend #crafts #decor

Came home from dinner to two things…overproofed dough and a Red Belly Black snake in the house. What an interesting night #sourdough #baking #homestead #farmlife #snake

Voting time. And because we’re nice and early, we also get a Democracy Sausage. Bonus!

This pretty well sums up my morning routine waking up on a farm in the Australian subtropics #farmlife

My entire harvest of pecan nuts this year. Let’s face it, it’s better than no pecans. And it’s probably six more pecans than you have

A beautiful day for a surf with a storm just offshore

Our neighbour has Starlink, kept coms all the way through the ordeal of cyclone Alfred. And we are thinking of putting it on...but I am not giving money to Musk, ever. So I'm going to hold out for Eutelsat, a rival European company, with the added bonus of supporting their commitment to Ukraine
A European Starlink rival's shares skyrocketed 390% in a week — here's why
Shares of French satellite operator Eutelsat gained over 550% in a three-day rally last week.

After a week of no power or coms, it's all back on thanks to the incredible effort of Essential Energy who worked around the clock to get us reconnected after cyclone Alfred.

We still have no phone service, but that's Vodafone for you. We'll be changing providers...once we can use the phone again

Not feeling safe right now. Power keeps going off and back on. Whole house creaking and groaning. Wind gusts picking up. Like crazy wind. Like it’s alive out there
March 6, 2025 at 10:27 AM
Shit getting real. Power out. Power back on. Didn't expect it to happen so early in the piece. We're going to be filling water jugs and buckets, we won't have enough fuel to outlast Alfred
March 6, 2025 at 7:01 AM
Up until half an hour ago we were just hunkering down. This morning the sun was out and although the wind was ferocious, I actually went out and did some gardening. Only for an hour or so but boy did it feel surreal. We also went for a walk.

But suddenly, just like a switch being flipped, it’s here

Wind is picking up & the rain is constant. Schools, public services, businesses are closing down, evacuation centres are opening up. Trees are blocking roads. We’ve been told to shelter in place. We moved the cows, tied down a few big plants, piled up towels & mats near doors & windows. Now we wait
March 5, 2025 at 8:52 AM
Up on the roof doing some last minute repairs to the panels and the gutters. And when I say we I mean my husband Ian. Alfred is moving closer and the rain is steady now. The wind was roaring constantly this morning, now it’s dropped off. Conditions are officially described as deteriorating

Time to do some shopping. People are panic buying as expected. Everyone is buying extra fuel and filling sandbags. But at least we got the essentials…the last Boston bun and bbq chicken in the supermarket! We are all set for Armageddon 😘

7/ we’ll help people as they need it. That might include evacuating, rehoming animals, bringing food, passing information. Most people here are pretty self sufficient, but you never know whose animals will break free, who’ll lose electricity, whose roof comes off, whose driveway becomes blocked.
March 4, 2025 at 2:07 AM
6/ We can cope with rain. It’s the wind we’re worried about. We can’t be trapped as we are in front of the causeway, but our neighbours can. They’ll be welcome to take shelter with us as the need arises.

I'm part of the local SRT group and we'll be doing our shortwave radio checks today.
March 4, 2025 at 2:03 AM
5/ I’ll make jewellery and load product onto the web while Ian keeps on with the mud room renovation, no doubt occasionally shouting “holy fuck!” or “I hope that wasnt the roof!”. So long as we can maintain power and connectivity of course 😊
March 4, 2025 at 2:01 AM
4/ I’ve brought in all possible fruit and vegetables from the garden, even if they’re undersized, otherwise we’ll lose them all. And we’re also thanking the gods that this is not a working weekend for us, so our income will not be impacted. 😊
March 4, 2025 at 1:59 AM
3/ we're stocking up on fuel for the genny, tying down everything we can, cleaning gutters & decks, covering stuff with tarps, moving the cows to higher ground, cutting down dead wood, pulling in all outdoor furniture, sand bagging doorways and buying in extra supplies.
March 4, 2025 at 1:58 AM
2/ This is only the 3rd time in recorded history that a cyclone has made landfall this far south & each time the event has been associated with devastation. The terrible floods of 3 years ago involved severe rainfall (over 300ml in one day) after months of constant rain.
