During Trump's first term Adam Serwer wrote a justly celebrated article for The Atlantic titled "The cruelty is the point." He argued that cruelty, and the joy some people take from inflicting cruelty, are what bind Trump's most loyal supporters to him: Trump's only true skill is the con; his only fundamental belief is that the United States is the birthright of straight, white, Christian men, and his only real, authentic pleasure is in cruelty. It is that cruelty, and the delight it brings them, that binds his most ardent supporters to him, in shared scorn for those they hate and fear: immigrants, black voters, feminists, and treasonous white men who empathize with any of those who would steal their birthright. The president's ability to execute that cruelty through word and deed makes them euphoric. It makes them feel good, it makes them feel proud, it makes them feel happy, it makes them feel united. As it happens, the obscenity in Florida took place at a time when a number of centrist pundits were engaging in their favorite sport, berating Democrats for being out of touch with ordinary Americans. As usual, their critique seems to be aimed at a right-wing caricature of the party rather than actually existing Democrats. But in any case, has any important Democrat ever done anything as remotely out of touch as Trump's Halloween bash?

regenfuturist 2h Nazi tattoo aside, just a reminder that Graham Platner worked for the private mercenary firm Blackwater. The same firm that plants their own right-wing operatives into liberal/Democrat/left campaigns. There needs to be better vetting of self-proclaimed Democratic candidates with such checkered backgrounds and suspect personal choices. The age of pretend is over. It must be over. When Hakeem Jeffries talks about "bipartisanship" with his hands flailing about as if he is auditioning to play a parody of himself on "Saturday Night Live" it means that he is as delusional as Kristi Noem or Pam Bondi. What is he talking about? Schumer is even worse. Neither is effective as a communicator, strategist, tactician or leader. They are incompetent. They are weakness personified. They are appeasers and weaklings. Behind them are all of the Congressional lemmings and careerists who stand for nothing but the next lobbyist check. Money, money, money.

You wonder why people stayed, or I did. Why the fuck they didn't leave. Every sign pointed to get the fuck out and they stayed? Now we're all living it. It's enough to make you feel crazy. Everything going on as normal and there's a new season of Slow Horses soon. But everything getting worse. Feels like we've been watching a crew of dipshits try to fell a tree with pocket knives, and for years now it's been "lol look at these dumbasses," but they chipped away enough the first time. We elected a guy who tried to wrap some duct tape around it. Only took a couple more hits. Now it's falling fast and coming right at us. A few of my friends are trans. I don't try to talk them down. I don't try to talk anyone down, but them, least of all. Get the fuck out if you can. Maybe that's why they're calling. I won't tell you you're overreacting. You're not. None of us are. We should've gone a long time ago. But goddamn it's not easy. I have a place to land in Italy. I should be there now. But I have a book coming out, if books are still a thing. I don't have the money. And I have a dog that cannot be put in cargo so he's going to cost me ten grand I don't have anyway. But if I go, it'll be for his life. So where are we going? I'm just rambling here. The fuck do I know. Speaking of which, a fun note people like to tell you about Eat Pray Love is she got the book deal before she left. I wonder if that's an option. Write a book proposal for "I guess Albania is the place?"

This is what Brian Kilmeade of Fox “News” wants the trump regime to do.
Mother Jones The official euthanasia program began with an order from Adolf Hitler, the only genocide order Hitler himself signed. The brief note, written in October of 1939, was backdated to September to tie it to the start of the war. Many institutions already had practiced ad-hoc euthanasia. Hitler's phrasing suggests little of what they were about to do, little of what they were already doing. The euthanasia order went to the Führer's traveling physician Karl Brandt, and to Philipp Bouhler, the head of Hitler's private Chancellery. Hitler instructed Brandt and Bouhler to "broaden the authority of certain doctors to the extent that persons suffering from illnesses judged to be incurable may, after a humane, most careful assessment of their condition, be granted a mercy death." The words that matter here are "doctors" and "death": "humane," "careful assessment," and "mercy" give pointless ornamentation, scrollwork on the death certificate. In 1935, Hitler told the Reich health leader that he intended to use the war as cover to rid Germany of the mentally ill. He'd considered putting euthanasia for mental illness into an earlier law, though he dropped the idea as likely to cause "too great a sensation." At the time Hitler gave the order, mental patients were being killed in Poland, mostly by gun, but a few by gas.
