#kidlitchat YA used to be aimed at a younger audience. I wrote Sweet Dream romances in the 90’s and the characters were 16 but the audience was 10-14 year olds, with a very sweet wholesome story. Only a few sweet kisses allowed. Then YA changed as adults discovered the genre and aged it up.

#kidlitchat My recent picture book, KID & KID, has less than 30 words. But a pb an editor is interested in will have over 800 words with her rewrites. So word count is more flexible than I thought.

I agree. When I had my first YA series 20 years ago, they were very short and aimed for 10-14 year olds. #kidlitchat

#kidlitchat- Oops - I meant my series was called The Seer. It was an amazing time as I had daily fan letters back then (and none now…but hoping to improve with a 2027 mg).

This sounds like such a fun adventure! 🐾 I’m already curious how the Curious Cat Spy Club will crack the case!

Thanks but it would have been #5 in the Jessie mystery series and first books were written by my friend Stacia. 2 came out I think. #kidlitchat

#kidlitchat speaking of the Boxcar Children, I was hired to write a spinoff about the Jessie character a few years ago and it turned out really good… Only Whitman sold the series to RH. So it’s unlikely my book will ever be published.
