I agree but we are also seeing people mobilizing to stop ICE when their neighborhoods are invaded and also protest with others. Prices are up. All this is real life being experienced and goes beyond what is seen on phones. Disapproval is at 60%. Things are escaping the controlled info spheres

When my father was a boy (1930’s) he was outside a theater in Brooklyn and Durante walked up with 2 gorgeous women on his arms. He walked up to my dad, pinched both his cheeks and said “how ya doin’ kid”. Then he laughed and went into the theater with his gals. Funnier than any movie he was in.

Crying of Lot 49 is earlier and is basically perfect Pynchon so that's the one quirk in your theory. It's the gateway drug to the doorsteps if you get hooked.
