Beach-combing phycotourism near San Francisco for #PhycologyFriday. Would love some IDs!
Dark green seaweed with flat blades with split ends washed up on the sand. Fucus, known as bladderwrack or rockweed. Dark reddish-purple, delicately branched algae hanging onto a kelp. Large golden-brown kelp with a bulbous air bladder at the tip of the stipe with several blades attached. About 10 more feet of stipe laying nearby, but no holdfast. Nereocystis, bull kelp.

One of my favorite Roatan memories will be watching a baby agouti explore the world by the bungalow. Mama and baby emerged at the same time every day to forage and run zoomies. The Roatan Island Agouti (Dasyprocta ruatanica) is endemic to the island.

Happy World Algae Day! To celebrate, Algae Foundation announces the launch of Phycoverse, its first educational algae game. I had so much fun working with Joe and the team to design this game. The art and graphic design are beautiful. We hope you enjoy it!
