A cover for Helen Oyeyemi’s excellent short story collection WHAT IS NOT YOURS IS NOT YOURS. The cover is an approximation of a wall in shades of turquoise and blue, with shadow art of a dog on the wall. As we look, we realize the shadow is being thrown by two brown hands extending from the open flames that cover the middle ground of the left half of the cover. We don’t get to see the person’s face or any part of them except their reaching clasped hands, but there is that rope visible around their wrists or just their sleeves? Slowly, we recognize that this very cute shadow has actually been created by a crushing weight of horror and pain. (Now imagine stealing this shadow art concept without having to live any of the horror. Reprehensible, right? That’s appropriation, baybee. This cover is art.)

Yesterday my players made it through the Terrifying Cave of Certain Doom narrowly bypassing EVERY SINGLE TRAP with a combination of brains, courage, determination, kindness and a little luck… and then I had to bend the actual laws of physics to keep them from a TPK on *THE STAIRS* 🤦🏻 #DnD, amirite? 💜
