That's fair if that's how you view things. I was responding to someone who said we need to take a hard line against GenAI even as a dev tool. I'm viewing this issue from a results oriented perspective. I want less GenAI in stuff, and if I have to compromise on GenAI as a dev tool, I'm OK with that.

It doesn't really matter whether they removed it out of principle or removed it due to backlash though. The important part is maintaining the narrative that GenAI is unacceptable in a retail product. You can't win the argument that good art can't contain GenAI at any point, E33 is a counterexample.

If anything, it will do the opposite, as people will think "If this amazing game had GenAI in it, then GenAI can't be that bad". I think the argument "The devs of E33 understand that GenAI is unacceptable in a released product, and removed it as soon as it was pointed out" is much more convincing.

I understand wanting to take a principled stance, but if you want to see a reduction in GenAI use this is absolutely a losing argument. Saying that the GOTY that thousands of people enjoyed is tainted beyond recovery because it contained a GenAI texture will not convince anyone that played E33.

Was going through this a few months back. Two weeks post defence and I'm honestly still pretty worn out.
