If Heaven is a figment of God’s imagination, does Jesus really exist? Is he a sentient part of someone else’s dream? Remember who you are. Jesus sits on a nearby bench and closes his eyes. I’m Jesus Christ, he thinks. He tries to think back to his life. Suddenly he’s thrown into darkness again. There’s a loud whooshing sound. He hears screaming, then the pain comes. He opens his eyes and clutches his chest, panting. The Devil said he jumped. But that’s exactly what the Devil would want him to think if he’d pushed him. Remember. He can’t.

She drags herself out of bed and searches the kitchen for coffee. It’s Friday. Faith and Tristan are due home today if they aren’t here already. She rinses the coffee pot in the sink. She fills the pot with water, then fills a cup with water and drinks it. She makes enough coffee for her and Oriana. She checks her watch. It’s past noon. Whatever. She needs this to function. Andy washes her face and brushes her teeth while the coffee brews. She grabs aspirin for some relief from her headache. She gets dressed from a pile of clothes on the floor and she’s ready to go. She steps outside. A man stares back at her from the driveway. Andy’s heart skips a beat. She glances toward the house. Faith’s car is in the driveway. The man rushes toward her. He’s fast. Too fast. Andy throws her coffee in his face and breaks the mug over his head. She rushes back inside to grab her gun. She doesn’t make it. Speed gave this demon away. Demons rarely use their wings. Angels almost can’t help but use them.

The Love of Job “Patience is the essence of love,” said Job, As he sat on the bed and watched God disrobe. “I’d wait for you forever and forever amen.” God said, “I’d never test you like that again.” They lay together in the biblical sense. And God worshiped Job as his recompense. “Passion is the essence of love,” said God. “We do the best we can though we may be flawed. The Devil told me you’d go astray. If I took all your reasons to live away.” “My love for you is deep and divine. You could take the whole world and we’d still be fine.” “I love you too, but there’s no way to prove it. I’m cosmic, immortal, and while you have grit I’ll be around forever but you will not. Devotion and faith are all we’ve got." “Love is a river and I’m just a drink One day I’ll drown and you’ll watch as I sink. then I’ll be that river and live like water does you’ll go on drinking the water that I was In that way I live forever right by your side Your grief will be a figment of the day I died.” God lay next to Job and thought for a while He kissed Job’s cheek and said with a smile, “Water is the essence of of love and life I will drink you forever and you’ll calm my strife.” “Patience is the essence of love,” Job said, As God stretched beside him, naked in the bed. “Then I’ll wait for you until I’m gone,” God said. “Until I join the river and in that water we’ll wed.” Job kissed God and gently touched his cheek In that moment they knew what they didn’t need to speak. They stayed like that until Job had to leave But God held his body and knew better than to grieve. An eternity passed and day by day God drank the water until he faded away Then the river got deeper and the current grew They’d finally found each other beyond the blue.

Then just as suddenly he’s back in the pale blue room standing in front of the mirror. Something is terribly wrong. He doesn’t belong here. Panic rising in his chest, he blinks again and again is transported to midair, falling through the rain. He’s going to die. He stumbles as he comes back to the room. He feels like he’s spinning. Then the pain sets in. He falls to his knees, screaming. It’s overwhelming, hot, stabbing, bone-deep pain. He curls into himself, body shaking. He can’t breathe. He can’t speak. His thoughts come in beats, matching the rhythm of his heart. They’re red. The color behind his eyes is red. He can only think of the color red. Then everything goes black.

I mean, once you’ve gone through it, you’ll realize the dread was greater than the actual feeling.” “Still hard to go through,” says Gabriel. “Finding that meta, inner peace…that sweet spot between stillness and awareness…That’s the way to do it.” “Feel free to share your tricks,” says Lucifer. “I’ve told you all I know,” says Gabriel. “If you still can’t do it at this point, you’re doing something wrong.” “So,” says Jesus, “let’s say I feel brave and want to try remembering. How do I do it?” “It’s sort of like lucid dreaming,” says Gabriel. “You should go to a quiet place. Your room here works, if you feel safe. Focus on the last thing you remember. You keep talking about being on a bridge, so that’s a good place to start. Then, when the pain comes, don’t run from it. Embrace it. Feel it.”
