2/2 but absolutely nothing could, or would set the DNS for the tunnel, not even my employers DNS agent (and I work for a DNS company)

Honestly it’s pretty broken at the moment. I was doing some work stuff the other day and manually setting the dns for the VPN would not work period. Thankfully because I control both ends I could set the required dns as part of the connection parameters supplied by the other end 1/2

My mother was disappointed in me for getting into uni to do my b.Ed, spent like an hour lecturing me on how I should have joined the defence force to learn discipline. Suffice to say, that’s the last time I spoke to her
