This is important because it’s the summer Olympics and some of the events maye require using those green spaces so if they can minimize the effects they have on it that would be super helpful to the environment.

And that could potentially harm them in the long run.

Going to nationals for basketball and interacting with everyone from different provinces was a really good unity experience! At the end of the tournament, we all go together and traded our team gear and it was really cool to talk to them and bring something new home to remember the experience by!

Walk into a store or a restaurant, and text messages and snaps you are exposed to in a day!

Talking about media in class yesterday made me think about how much media we are exposed too every day without realizing it.
Some examples that we didn’t mention in class include: packaging on food items and drinks such as cereal boxes! Other examples include physical art statues, music when you

To me was why people stay silent in situations like these. For example in men: they think that staying silent is the only way the keep their reputation as manly/ masculine and protects their identity as a respected athlete.

I found the topic of hazing really interesting. As someone who’s been involved in sport my whole life and now playing a university sport. I have experienced and heard about things like “rookie parties”. I didn’t know that even very small things could be considered hazing. The most interesting part

This is very interesting! I would consider this negative deviance because the standard would be drinking water. And the positive deviance of this situation would be drinking a ton of water!

Therefore it’s not creating an unfair playing field because everyone has access and it’s up you if you want to take them or not.

A debate topic we briefly covered in class was: is it okay for some athletes to use painkillers (as it could be a way to gain competitive advantage)

I think it should be allowed because if it is available to everyone, it is a choice whether you use them or not.

This is a great idea to make a post about! As someone living away from home just like you, i can talk from experience that planning grocery store trips , meal prepping and bringing snacks for the road are a huge help!

Because of his struggles he is a part of the nhls player assistance program where he is open about the reasons why he is there and the help he gets. Liane and his fiancée launched an initiative called ‘from us to you’ helping to support mental health in the hockey community!

Athletes shouldn’t have to deal with mental health alone! It is not a personal problem, it happens to many people/ pro athletes. Patrick liane from the nhl is a great example. He struggles with depression and panic attacks triggered by the death of his father, nonetheless affecting him in sport.

This is so cool! Looking up to female coaches in a male dominated league (of coaches) in the sport you play is awesome!

This is super cool! lots of young girls play hockey (I used to play aswell). It was really cool to look up and see these role models. Even though they are apart of the BIPOC community, as kids we never saw them any different. I think it puts it into perspective about who’s creating these divides

This is awesome! As someone whose mom has run the Boston marathon before, it’s really cool to see and acknowledge this because she might have been able to run it otherwise.

I would consider sports anything that gets you physically active and increases your heart rate. Which is a competition, has a set of rules, and a scoring system. Therefore I think running (like a marathon) is a sport whereas chess isnt.
