I’ve heard the best is the OCR tool developed by the National Diet Library, which can even handle furigana at times: github.com/ndl-lab/ndlk...

Been chewing on this a lot lately too because I am similarly baffled. But I also didn’t like Hollow Knight all that much so that could be part of it 😔

Definitely seems analogous to what they've been doing with golf, which seems to have received a decent amount of scholarly attention. I'd probably start there if I wanted to learn more (though I wonder how the esports case differs!)

I am also only here because of FLAS funding. Have been hearing the strain it’s putting on folks just a few years behind me in the process, just gut-wrenching to think about nationally.
