Valve added a bunch of stability fixes during the 25th Anniversary update, so that's probably a big part of it.

Nothing has ever come close to capturing CB's vibe. I just wish they actually finished the game, because there's a lot of stuff still broken and you can really tell that the ending was rushed out. Apparently 079 isn't even meant to lie about only opening one gate, it's just an outdated voiceline.
