I heard of a city that does the same, but alternates each year which side is cleared, but I don't remember where it was.

Before living in Montreal, I thought it was the norm. At least Saguenay does this too, on streets that are deemed less important. They usually clear the North and West sidewalks if I remember correctly. But yeah, I used to have to walk on the street a lot...

This one is wild 😮

not that the already pretty limited bike infrastructure should accommodate everybody. And yes, it's absolutely a pet peeve of mine, as there are entire RUNNING CLUBS with 20+ members doing this.

as it's way too often icy or badly plowed (in my neighborhood, since cars are partly blocking the sidewalk), uneven, in bad shape and let's be honest: interrupted by driveway entries way too often. I get their point, but that means the sidewalk should be improved 2/

I know a lot of runners who do this unfortunately. They say they go counter-flow to be able to see bikes coming so they can move out of the way. But yeah, it's a real issue. I tried to get the ones I know to stop doing it, but they usually justify it by talking about the sidewalk state 1/

Last time I talked to someone at the STM, I was told they study which line to put them on as to not cause delay on the bus line. But yeah, that's kind of sad, since the 121 is usually stuck in traffic everywhere there's no reserved lane, I'm not sure the bike rack would be the cause of delays...

The only time I tried to use one, it was broken on the first bus, waited for the next one, and the bus driver refused to let me use it because it took me more than 20 seconds to try and secure my bike. Locked my bike there and took the third bus. Arrived 1h late. Never tried again.

December 17, 2024 at 11:00 AM
There's one exactly like that where I live. It even has a ramp to the highway crossing the bike path, without any kind of protection or even signalisation. I'm scared just thinking about it.

I really enjoy the format! If you're open to feedback, I would suggest lowering the music volume a little and/or having the subtitles stay longer on the screen to make it easier to understand (but maybe it's more about the quality of my headphones... 🎧)

So, it's a lot like having cats, without the cost of the vet is what I hear.

And I would not be surprised if it worked to some extent. I know I, for one, would not take my bike downtown if there was no protected infrastructure. I just don't have the skill and confidence to be doing it comfortably, and prefer getting to work without fearing for my life...
